New Year

I said to the man
Who stood at the gate of the year,
"Give me a light,
That I may tread safely into the unknown."

And he replied,

"Go out into the darkness,
And put thine hand into the hand of God.
That shall be to thee better than light,
And safer than a known way."

By the time you read the magazine this month, we shall have begun. the New Year. Many of us will have made our new year resolutions, and many of us will, no doubt will have already broken them! Our thoughts are already being turned, perhaps somewhat prematurely, to planning summer holidays. The papers, television and magazines are full of such advertisements. Others among us are perhaps contemplating moving home, going abroad, or expecting a visit from relations or friends, whom we have not seen for years. Here in Barton we can expect to see steady progress on the Humber Bridge as the months go by. All kinds of events we can look forward to - some known, some unknown. So before we plunge into the year, let's pause and consider those few lines above. I would conclude that, for myself, your church magazine is a new venture - I shall welcome any contributions, comments or criticisms you have to offer me. If you have any opinions upon any matter, please remember that this is your magazine in which to express them.

The last date for handing in copy for the February issue of the church in Barton is Thursday 18th January. Copy may be sent to the Vicar or to the Editor Mrs M. Sidell, 12, Birchdale. Publication day will be Sunday 28th January.
