MOTHERS' UNION

There is no monthly meeting of the branch during August, but there will be the usual corporate communion on Wednesday 2nd August at 9.30am.
Meanwhile we are beginning to absorb the implications of the long-awaited report on the future of the Mothers' Union. Much of our time in the coming year will be taken up with study and discussion of the recommendations, so that we may speak with a clear voice when called upon to do so.

MOTHERS' UNION OUTING
TO HARROGATE AND NEWBY HALL

Members of the Mothers' Union had their prayers answered last Tuesday night for Wednesday 19th July brought blue skies and sunny weather for our outing to Harrogate and Newby Hall. Together with several friends, a total of thirty-four ladies left Barton at 8.15am after a short communion service in Church. The main part of the outing was the visit to Newby Hall, thirteen miles from Harrogate, which is the ancestral home of the Crompton family. Here we were met by the owner and shown round.
We were interested to learn that the previous day the Queen Mother had been here for lunch before going on to Mothers' Union service in Ripon. The Hall had been decorated with many beautiful plants for its royal visitor. As we went round it amused many of us to see amongst the beautiful old furniture and decorations, a small modern television. Many of us were also able to see a replica of the Crown Jewels. Before leaving we had a high tea. We eventually arrived home at 9.30pm after a most enjoyable and, I hope, repeatable day.

YOUNG WIVES GROUP

The Barton Young Wives go on to the finals of the Inter [?]-Group Quiz, having beaten Epworth in June and Middle Rasen in July. The latter being the semi-finals was most exciting as the final result was 64 to Barton and 60 to Middle Rasen. The final against Market Rasen will be held in September, at Middle Rasen. We shall be rounding up all the support that we can muster.
There are no meetings in August.
