Mondays 19th February, 1973

Dear Parishioners,
Naturally enough, the subject I wish to talk about this month is Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday, 7th March. 0n that day there will be celebrations of Holy Communion at 7.30 am and 9 am. The latter of these two will be the usual School Eucharist arid the monthly corporate communion of the Mothers' Union. In the evening there will be Choral Evensong at 7.00 pm.
Each day during Lent there will be a celebration of Holy Communion: Mondays at 8am, Tuedday at 7.30 am, Wednesdays at 9.30 am and 7 pm, Thursdays at 10 am, Fridays at 8 pm and Saturdays at 9 am. There is a list of these services in Church and it will be a great help if those intending to come would put a tick in the appropriate space, so that we can make sure that there will be a congregation on each day.
You may remember that we had planned a series of house group meetings for Lent 1972 to discuss the report on Baptism and Confirmation and the rules for admission to Holy Communion. These had to be cancelled because we were plunged into darkness by the power cuts during the miners' strike. The same subject is just as vital, especially this Lent because the General Synod is beginning its discussions on the Report at this summer's meeting in July.
It is hoped to arrange about a dozen groups throughout the town, which will each meet once a week, not necessarily on the same evening as each other, during the five weeks from March 12th - April 13th. If you would like to be a member of one of these groups but have not yet had an invitation to join a particular group, please put your name and address on the list at the back of the Church. We would particularly welcome parents with young children and with children approaching the age for confirmation.
At the Annual Parochial Church Meetinq which is to be held on Monday 5th March at St. Mary's Church we hope to have a good representation of members of the electoral roll. The meeting will be preceded by a celebration of Holy Communion according to the Series 3 service. The Holy Communion will begin at 7 pm, the meeting at 7.30 pm.
Yours sincerely,

Darrel Speedy
