Saint Mary the Virgin

Plans are progresing slowly, but surely, with the new Hall which we plan to build in St. Mary's churchyard. To help us on our way with the necessary funds, particularly with the fitting out of the building, we have three important social events in the near future.
Mr. K. Cox has kindly agreed to allow us to use the White House (formerly the White Lion) in the Market Place, in which to hold these functions. These events will be

Grand Whist Drive - Wednesday, 31st May - 7.30 pm

Coffee Morning - Saturday 3rd June - 10.30 am

Cheese & Wine - Friday 9th June - 8 pm

We have also been very fortunate indeed in that many famous manufacturers have provided us with excellent prizes, and in great numbers, for each of these occasions. These include Parker Knoll, Royal Doulton, Royal Worcester, Dorma Sheets, Wedgewood, Spode, Viners Steel, Eldonian Handbags. We have today heard that Butlins have presented a prize of a holiday for two at any of their holiday camps. Many of our local firms have also presented us with prizes and promises of assistance.

We are very grateful to Mrs. Owen and Mrs. Atkin for providing and making a new festal frontal for the altar in the Chapel of St. James the Deacon. Mrs Winship has very kindly lined the hangings around the altar which she presented to the Church some years ago.
