The Vicar's Letter

28th May, 1973

Dear Parishioners,
I would like to start this month writing about a very important event which will happen next month. This is the great occasion of Mr. Emerson's ordination as a priest on Sunday 1st July. We all know how well Mr. Emerson has been received in Barton during this last year. Many have great reason to thank him for his help and ministry during their time of need in sickness and grief. Others will have found his help among the less fortunate members of the community, especially with the handicapped and with the elderly at the Willows. We have also shared in his talents as a comedian and with the Dramatic Society.
On July 1st at 10.30 am in Lincoln Cathedral there will be an ordination at which Mr. Emerson will be ordained priest. That morning there will be no Parish Communion at Saint Mary's nor a service of Holy Communion at Saint Chad's. Instead there will be a bus leaving St. Chad's at 8.50 am and St. Mary's at 9 am to take us to the Cathedral, so that we can take part in the ordination. There is a list in St. Mary's for those who wish to come with the party to write down their names. St. Chad's congregation are asked to tell Mr. Sorfleet or Mr. Peeps if they wish to come. I hope that many will take this opportunity to support Mr. Emerson.
The following Monday, 2nd July, is the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of our Parish Church's Patronal Festivals. That night at 7.30 pm there will be a celebration of the Parish Communion at which Mr. Emerson will celebrate for the first time. and begin his ministry in Barton as a Priest of the Church.
