HOW LOW CAN A MAN GET
or
IF THE VICAR CAN, WHY CAN'T YOU ? ? ? ? ?

A singularly odd title, you may think, particularly for a church magazine, but read on.
The music at St. Mary's has been improving for some time, and we have now reached a point when we can branch out and do more interesting and exciting things. The re-building of St. Peter's organ will see a series of organ recitals in July, September and October, the middle one of which will be by Dr. Pemberton. It is hoped that the choir will be able to sing Evensong at Beverley Minster, sometimes in the Summer and perhaps at a future date in our own cathedral. We have recently extended the scope of our music library, and there is the distinct possibility that we may be given the music library of a redundant church.
All this needs the people to do it. We can muster nearly 50 in the choir during college holidays, and shift-work permitting. There is one aspect that we can do with strengthening - the bass line. Sometimes, because of shift-work, we are not able to muster any basses. (This is no criticism of our present basses, merely a statement of fact). Hence the title of this article - the Vicar sings bass. Anybody who would be willing to try his hand and voice, please get in touch with me as soon as possible.
Alan Wright.
